CANAIMA THE LOST WORLD - A NATIONAL PARK

An ecosystem of rich flora and fauna, with majestic waterfalls that invite to the contemplation the Angel Falls, next to the Axe Falls, the Sapo Falls and The Sapito, the ethnic group pemón, tepuyes; all conform the natural wealth and biodiversity of the well-known zone like the Great Savannah in the State Bolivar.

It is a rich organization in native fauna and flora, where the mysteries and the surprises abound. In the region of Guayana is one of main the ecotourism attractions: the National Park Canaima.

This park has an approximated extension of three million hectares, reason why is considered one of greatest in the world. It is characterized to have some of the oldest rock formation of the country and America. You only need to take a glance to the Valley of the Thousand Columns, in the top of the Auyantepuy, to be impressed. The steep walls of this hill - tepuy in pemón language - demonstrate the effects of the erosion, which with the passage of the years has left in the open the bases of these plateaus.

Nature in all its splendour

The turbulent waters of the Carrao River form the Lagoon of Canaima. In order to know these routes you must do them in curiaras, typical indigenous boats. It is a magnificent experience to observe the dense foam that forms when waters falls in such a vertiginous race.

The greenness abounds in the dense forests that serve as carpet in the millenarian rocky formation. At the top, the herbaceous vegetation predominates.

It is not difficult to run into a variety of birds, with the tropical colours that characterizes to them. For example, the hummingbird, macaws with intense red and blue, the toucan or piapoco, the bell bird or the panties parrot whose plumage allows him to be confused with the rest of the landscape.

The vastness of the zone makes you think for moments the visitor who are in another world, in the middle of the nothing, before the immensity of tepuyes and the indetenible force of the rivers of Canaima.

Ecotourism

Several routes exist that become 80% in curiara and the rest on foot and in equipped vehicles of double traction or for the zone. The routes by the jumps can be mentioned the Toad, of Yuri, Salto Angel, the Sapito and the Axe. Of course, the option exists to fly over the zone and to make an air reconnaissance.

A called zone Kavac exists. One arrives in airships - flights charter that start off from the lagoon of Canaima, and also from Ordaz Port in City the Daisy Bolivar, Maiquetía and island. In order to spend the night, they count on the Kavac camping. The river of the same name is diversified and allowed to enjoy its crystalline waters in cascades and grottos.

Sites of interest

Angel Falls Is the greatest water fall in the world, with a fall of 1,005 meters from the Auyantepuy of 2,580 meters above sea level. It was discovered in 1937 by Jimmie Angel, an American pilot. The tourists who visit will have the opportunity to see, the airplane that this pilot used when he discovered to Angel Falls, which was recovered from the top of the Auyantepuy in 1970 and later renovated in Maracay. There is also a replica in the Aeronautical Museum in the city of Maracay, Aragua State.

Orinoco River Its majestic water course has a route of 2,140 kilometres and a volume of 18,000 cubic meters per second. The Orinoco River is navigable from Ayacucho Port to its opening and from Bolivar City, large-draft ships can sail.

Angostura Brigde Is a bridge that unites Bolivar City with Soledad, a town that is located in the Anzoátegui State. It has many tourist attractions. The bridge is only 5 kilometres of Bolivar City and its length is of 1,678 meters.

Cave Sima Humboldt (Sarisariñama Is the biggest abyss in the world. It has a depth of 350 meters and the width is of 352 meters. It is located in the south of the Bolivar State.

Caroni Falls The most famous in this area is La Llovizna, or the Drizzle Falls, next to Guayana City. In general, these are places of great beauty and that represents one of the most appraised tourist treasures of Guayana.
